3-STEP SPARRING (Sambo Matsogi)
N.B. Attacker starts by pulling the right leg back into a left walking stance and forming a low section block with the left outer forearm.
Defence 1
(i) Step back with the right leg and block with a left middle knifehand block.
(ii) Step back with the left leg and block with a right middle knifehand block.
(iii) Step out with the right leg and block with a left middle knifehand block
whilst executing a high section forefist punch to the temple with the right
fist.
Defence 2
(i) Step back with the right leg and block with a left middle outer forearm
block.
(ii) Step back with the left leg and block with a right middle outer forearm
block.
(iii) Step out to the side with the right leg and kick with a right side kick
to the opponents mid section landing in a left L-stance forming a right handed
middle forearm guarding block.
Defence 3
(i) Step back with the right leg forming a left walking stance and block with
a left middle inner forearm block.
(ii) Step back with the left leg forming a right walking stance and block
with a right middle inner forearm block.
(iii) Step back with the right leg forming a left walking stance and block
with a left middle inner forearm block. Bring the right foot to the left foot
and strike with a right knifehand strike to the neck whilst holding the opponents
left wrist with your left hand.
Defence 4
(i) Step back with the right leg forming a right L-stance and block with a
middle guarding block with the knifehand.
(ii) Step back with the left leg forming a left L-stance and block with a
middle guarding block with the knifehand.
(iii) Bring the right foot in to the left and then take the right foot back
out again forming a right walking stance whilst executing a front elbow strike
with the left elbow. Step out with the right leg and execute a left side kick
to the mid section.
Defence 5
(i) Step back with the left leg forming a right walking stance whilst blocking
with a middle outer forearm block with the right arm.
(ii) Step back with the right leg forming a left walking stance whilst blocking
with a middle outer forearm block with the left arm.
(iii) Step back with the left leg forming a right walking stance whilst blocking
with a middle outer forearm block with the right arm. Move the right foot
counter clockwise to the outside of the opponent forming a sitting stance
and execute a middle knifehand side strike with the right hand.
Notes:
1. Ensure blocking and attacking tools are focused accurately on the appropriate
targets.
2. Ensure reaction force is used at all times no one handed techniques.
3. Correct stances are only required at the point of contact with the opponent.
Additional body shifting may be required if there are different opponent heights
exercising.
4. Ensure sparring exercise is carried out using dynamic techniques.
5. It must be note that stances and body shifting may be necessary if partners
are of different heights. In some cases, the focus point of the counter will
have to be redirected to another or in some cases change routine.
6. Blue belts and above should be encouraged to develop their own sets of
exercise.
