3-STEP SPARRING 'Type B'

N.B. Attacker starts by pulling the right leg back into a left walking stance and forming a low section block with the left outer forearm. The defender chooses an appropriate technique to block with; there is no pre-set technique given, only the attacker has a set of attacks to remember.

As with 3-Step sparring, the attacker moves forwards three times, but this time using the following techniques:

1 - Walking stance obverse forefist punch x 3

2 - L-Stance knifehand side strike x 3

3 - Walking stance knifehand downward strike x 3

4 - Walking stance obverse forefist punch x 1; L-Stance knifehand side strike x 1; Walking stance knifehand downward strike x 1

5 - Any of the above in any order chosen by the attacker

The attacker then pulls back into an L-Stance and forms a forearm guarding block and moves forward using the following techniques:

6 - Front kick x 3

7 - Side kick x 3

8 - Turning kick x 3

9 - Front kick x 1; Side kick x 1; Turning kick x 1

10 - Any of the above kicking techniques in any order chosen by the attacker

Notes:

1. Ensure blocking and attacking tools are focused accurately on the appropriate targets.
2. Ensure reaction force is used at all times – no one handed techniques.
3. Correct stances are only required at the point of contact with the opponent.
Additional body shifting may be required if there are different opponent heights exercising.
4. Ensure sparring exercise is carried out using dynamic techniques.
5. It must be note that stances and body shifting may be necessary if partners are of different heights. In some cases, the focus point of the counter will have to be redirected to another or in some cases change routine.
6. Blue belts and above should be encouraged to develop their own sets of exercise.
