Sunday 1st May   ‘A’ Division winners Buersil - Charity Singles

The winner was Lynn Connolly, who beat Royle team-mate, Dot Dwyer 21-17 in the final. Semi-finalists were Linda Fardon (Thistleyfield) and Anne Burgess (Syke). The raffle raised £90 for the chosen charity (Springhill Hospice)

Sunday 8th May Ladies’ Pairs Broadfield

The winners were L Rimmer & L Emmerson who beat M Forrest & M Taylor 21-13 in the final. Semi-finalists were E Ginnever & B Davey and M Hazeldine & M Carson. Approximately £200 was raised for the charity “Hearing Dogs for the Deaf”. Thanks to all for a good day.

Sunday 15th May ‘B’ Division winners Buersil - Charity Pairs

Winners: A Dewhurst & J Brierley;                            Runners-up: A Burgess & D Shaw;                        Semi-Finalists: A Mulrooney & C Hartley and M Hazeldine & M Carson.                                                                              A big thank you to all who took part and to those who helped with the catering and running of the games. £65 was raised for the Premature Baby Unit.                                        

Sunday 29th May Emily Holden Queen’s Park

Winner: Mary Wareham; Runner-up: Vera Ashcroft; Semi-finalists: Jean Barlow & Hazel Cockley                              It was a successful day, in spite of some heavy rain for a while, and £44 was raised for Francis House Children’s Hospice. Thanks to all who took part and also to those who donated raffle prizes. Semi-finals: Joyce Jones (Buersil) 21-6 Caroline Yates (Norden) Dot Dwyer (Royle) 21- 8 Margaret Taylor (Buersil)                    Final: Joyce Jones (Buersil) 21 - 10 Dot Dwyer (Royle)        Thank you to everyone for entering the competition. Not the normal sunny weather we have for the Rose Bowl, but it was a good day and the competition ran very well.

Sunday 12th June Mayor’s Charity Queen’s Park

Winner: Margaret Taylor; Runner-up: Joan Brierley               Semi-finalists: Molly Prime & Sandra Beglin                            Thank you to all who took part, in spite of some of the worst weather we could have had.Thanks to your generosity, £46 was raised from the raffle for the Mayor’s Charity

Sunday 19th June Meg Fielding Rochdale B C

In the closest possible final, Adele Cooke (Buersil) beat Margaret Taylor (Buersil) by 1 point. Semi-finalists Milly Banks (Chesham) & Vanessa Lord (Rugby Rd). Thanks to all who took part and to all those who helped in any way to make the day a success. We raised £76 in the raffle for Macmillan Nurses

Wed 22nd June Mabel Dearlove Over 50s

The competition was blessed with good weather and a superb turn out. After an excellent day of bowling, the eventual winner was Margaret Taylor who overcame Joyce Briggs in a close fought final. The raffle held on behalf of Springfield Hospice raised £105 and thanks go to Sue Mitchell and New Street for a well organised daY.

Semi-finalists: Kath Harvey 21 - Kitty Stockley 14;              Nikki Mellor 21 - Jenny Jackson 19                                       Final: Kath Harvey 21 - Nikki Mellor 13                                  A big thank you to everyone who took part and who helped with the catering and contributed to the smooth running of the day. The weather was glorious all day and £350 was raised for Macmillan Nurses. Thistlryfield are very grateful to those who donated raffle prizes. A good day was had by all.

Sunday 7th August New Street Ladies’ Pairs

Despite a very wet start to the competition, it was completed with an excellent display of bowling, thanks to the hard work of the members to make the green playable. The eventual winners were Joyce Jones & Adele Cooke, triumphing over Elaine Berry & Allison Young 21-14. The losing semi-finalists were Barbara Dave & Margaret Maloney, Millie Banks & S. Halliwell. Thanks to everyone for their support in making the day a great success.

Sunday 14th Aug Gwen Simpson Ladies’ Pairs Queen’s Park

Winners; Doreen Murray & Molly Prime;                     Runners-up: Pat Charlton & Marie Mee;                    Semi-finalists: V Lord & V Ashcroft, M Wareham & B Sankey.     It was a good day, with the sun shining in the afternoon on an excellent, close final, when Molly Prime, with her last bowl took the jack through to give her and Doreen Murray the victory. Congratulations go to all the finalists, as well as to all who took part and made it such an enjoyable day. £62 was raised in the raffle, which will go to “British Heart Foundation”.    

Sunday 4th Sep New Street Mixed Pairs

We had a long but excellent display of crown green bowling, with eleven of the games finishing 21-20 before eventually Margaret Taylor & Barclay Warrington triumphed over Joanne Little and Tim Holt in a hard fought final.Losing semi-finalists were Linda Fardon and Matt Hargreaves; Michelle Carson and David Hughes. Thanks go to all the ladies for the first class refreshments and to Sue Mitchell for the superb organisation.

Sep 5th - 10th Jack Taylor Norden

Final: J Jones 21 - M Taylor 18; Semi-finals: J Jones 21 - S Mainwaring 13 & M Taylor 21 - B Davey 13; Quarter-finalists: J Beaumont; C Yates; R Hughes; L Fardon. We were very lucky with the weather for the final rounds after the atrocious downpours of the qualifying heats during the week. Thanks to everyone who entered and congratulations to Joyce.

Sunday 18th Sep Thistleyfield ‘Help for Heroes’ Mixed Pairs

Twenty three pairs entered and we raised over £400 for the charity. Thanks to all those who donated raffle prizes and food for the buffet. The winners were Sue Tuffy & Neil Slater who beat Sandra Beglin & Graham Barker 21-10 in the final. Losing semi-finalists were Linda Fardon & Ronnie Whitehead and Margaret Taylor & Jeff Melia. The winners of the Mac McHale Memorial Shield Mixed Pairs were Margaret Taylor & Barclay Warrington. Runners-up were Avril & Alan Dewhurst.
