THE ROMANTICA story

Our first Tonkinese kittens were born in1992. Their father was our wonderful

blue Burmese boy *Sam (Adraybu Dream Knight). .

and their mothers were our beautiful Siamese girls:

red point *Fanny  (Summerdown Angel Eyes)

and chocolate point *Kiki (Widgerwood Joella).

The same year *Natacha (Sylvakib Ashemo Swan) joined our family.

We shall be forever grateful to Sylvia Kibble for this devoted mother and affectionate

friend who blessed our home with her quiet serenity for nearly sixteen years.

In 1993 *Romantica Rodrigo Redsun (Rodrigo) was born from Fanny and Sam

and he became our first Red Tonkinese stud.

Rodrigo was an enthusiastic but gentle mate to many queens, siring kittens

with all the best qualities of the Tonkinese;beautiful and graceful,

affectionate and cheerful, energetic and robust.

The same year *Lila (Artro Brown Beatrix) our brown Burmese girl from

Mrs. Parry's acclaimed line joined the family and she gave us many

1st generation Tonkinese kittens with her own special spirit.

For several years our Tonkinese family grew as we kept special girls to become

mothers to succeeding generations:-

* Romantica Jessica Iris, chocolate tortie (solid) from Rodrigo and Natacha

* Romantica Delphine Astrid, blue tortie (solid) from Rodrigo and Lila.

* Gymnopédie Araminta, lilac tortie bred by Alison Spedding from

Romantica Orchid Petal and Romantica Lancelot

(who had become Bob and Val Chamberlain's popular stud).

* Adquash Coralie Cleo, cream, bred by Derek and Sheila Cruse from their cream

girl Chelsea mated to Rodrigo.

We had always planned for Sam and Rodrigo to retire from their stud careers

at an age young enough to make the transition back into a family home life.

We were therefore very grateful to welcome Jo Logan and Bet Lee's super friendly

*Herkatz Rudi Redboy as our new red Tonkinese stud.

Rudi sired many litters of kittens with his relaxed temperament and

sturdy good looks. He brought unrelated, well respected lines to complement

and enrich the various strands of the Romantica line I had been carefully

assembling over the preceding years. We kept three of Rudi's kittens

as permanent members of the family:-

* Romantica Dolce Vita (Evita), blue tortie (solid) from Rudi and Delphine.

   * Romantica Florence Saffron, chocolate tortie (solid) from Rudi and Natacha.

* Romantica Rufus Franklin, red (pointed) boy from Rudi and Araminta.

We must also include *Romantica Barnaby Fudge, Rufus' chocolate littermate who

moved in with our son, Christopher, and his family.

After many years filled with the joy and occasional tragedies of helping

Tonkinese kittens through their first wondrous weeks, a combination of

circumstances made us decide to spend the next few years enjoying the

company of our very large family of neuters just as family pets

and I retired from breeding.

With the passing of time we have suffered the heartbreak of losing several

of our beloved companions. We feel the time has come to bring new

life and hope for the future into our home with two new Tonkinese

girls who will hopefully have their own kittens in 2009.

Throughout my years of breeding I had been happy to let several of

my kittens go to Tonkinese breeders who shared my love of

and commitment to the healthy progress of the Tonkinese breed.

I followed with interest as they integrated the Romantica line

into their own carefully planned breeding programmes.

I have been extremely fortunate that two of these breeders

(who have become good friends) were happy to let me have

a beautiful girl, each with many of our dear departed loved ones

in her pedigree.

In the summer of 2008 we were delighted to welcome *Toshiki Romantica Chimène,

a brown (pointed) girl bred by Lydia Lines

and *Tonkaholics Romantica Iris, a blue tortie (pointed) girl bred by Christine Richards.

In March 2009 we were happy to welcome *Ferngully Romantica Violet

to complete our family. Violet is a blue tortie bred by Nina Short and Owen.

She has dearly loved Romantica cats on her father's side.

We are very grateful to Nina and Owen for offering us a beautiful kitten of

such sentimental value. We are also grateful to to Coral and Vince Macey

for perpetuating and enhancing this branch of the Romantica tree.

We fell in love with one of Iris' red boys born 13.05.09. So *Romantica Rémy Sunrise

stayed to join our family. We hope Rémy will sire one litter of kittens with Violet

before becoming one of our happy band of neuters enjoying a life

of leisure and companionship.

In April 2010 Violet had a large litter of lovely kittens. Rémy was the proud father and

enjoyed helping to look after them. We decided to keep both of the beautiful girls.

                * Romantica Matilda Aimée blue tortie *Romantica Scarlett red (pointed)

In April 2011 Iris had seven beautiful kittens. We couldn't bear to part with one

of the boys so *Romantica Jacob (our cream cracker) stayed to join the family.

And so continues the Romantica Story.
