Boro's reserves line up with the Brian Hitchings Memorial Cup, which they had won the previous Saturday. The cup was played for every
season by the winners of the two divisions of the Essex & Herts Border Combination, and the winners of the two league cups. However since
the four trophies were all won by either Dagenham & Redbridge or Enfield, Boro qualified by finishing runners-up to Enfield in the Eastern
Division the previous season. After beating Harlow Town in the semi- finals, Boro were away to Dagenham & Redbridge in the Final. Romford's
first team were at Ilkeston Town in the F A Cup while D&R had no first team fixture - so while the home side had several first teamers on duty,
Boro had to scrape together a side - and won an extraordinary match 3-2. Romford trailed 1-0 at half-time but Hughie Ashman equalised with
a penalty and John Buckley put them ahead. D&R levelled straight from the kick-off but Ashman lobbed the winner with ten minutes left.

Several of the players pictured above were actually on first team duty on the day of the Final - the team that played lined up as follows :

Tony WILLIAMS, Cheesewright, Kevin NEVILLE, Sean ADAMSON, Binks, Devonish-Inua,
Bunn, Gregg THOMPSON, Buckley, Ashman, Bradley. Subs Long, Mills, Adrian SMITH.
Manager Ken Smith is behind the camera.

Incidentally, Romford beat Hoddesdon 8-0 but lost the return leg 1-0, and were thrashed over two legs by Concord Rangers in the next round.
