Former Arsenal striker who was top scorer in his debut season at Sungate but dropped into midfield the following season. Tended to miss Saturdays in August flogging cars, but was able to make a guest appearance on Soccer A M and proceeded to miss a penalty against Bob the Cat. Scored the winner against Aveley in the 1998 East Anglian Cup Final. Started the following season at Purfleet but returned to Sungate, scoring in each of his first seven games after coming back. Duelled with Danny Benstock to establish the new Club record for league goals, getting his nose in front and coming to within a goal of breaking the Club record for all competitions by the time they both joined the exodus to Bishops Stortford, where Hayes eventually became manager and took them back into the Premier Division in 2002. Scored the only goal of the game at Sungate in the first clash between the two sides in October 1999. Wore the Boro colours again in May 2003 in a charity match at Hornchurch.
