Battling midfielder cast in much the same mould has his uncle, 1960s Boro veteran Dennis Sorrell. Former Dagenham & Redbridge captain who also played for Maidstone United and Colchester United. Reputation went before him and held the Club record for dismissals for over nine years, one of which cost him the captaincy and a long spell out of the side. Otherwise a very good man to have on your side when things are going against you. Over-enthusiastic display in a pre-season friendly against a young West Ham side prompted Harry Redknapp to vow never to take a side to Sungate again. Was also observed diving for cover when he heard somebody shout 'cab for Charlie'.
