Paul WITHEY
manager January - August 2001

Initially came to the Club as reserve team manager in the summer of 2000, but was replaced as part of the Barkingside episode. Took over the reserves at Aveley but was a little miffed to find out through the grapevine (from Romford) that the reserves were to be dropped mid-season. Successfully applied for the Romford first team job when the Club's suspension was lifted. Quickly assembled a new squad and had a superb start, with three wins in the first five league games as Boro tried to get away from the relegation places. Was unable to maintain it however, largely due to the fixture backlog caused by the suspension and the continued wet weather which caused several home games to be postponed. Had a better chance to assemble a squad for Division Two the following season but after a nondescript pre-season and a run of bad results at the start of the season, prompting much discontent among the supporters, was relieved of his duties.
