SAM Awarded LEADER Grant for Conservation and Refurbishment
We are pleased to announce that SAM has been awarded a £5,000 grant through the Coast, Wolds and Waterways LEADER programme. The grant will enable the museum to purchase four new display cabinets and seal six existing ones, this will help conserve the museum artefacts. The grant will also be used to fund a programme of conservation work on a number of metal artefacts, this work will be carried out by York Archaeological Trust. Whilst the museum is closed over the winter months volunteers will carry out improvements to labelling and archiving of the museums exhibits and produce a number of "Fact Files" to improve visitor imformation. SAM will re-open in March with an enhanced visitor experience.
