100% Flax Ditty Bag.

The concept behind this bag was to make a bag entirely from Flax products.

The body of the bag is made from 18oz Flax canvas, and is  300mm x 175mm. The stitching on the bag is done with Italian, hand spun Flax sewing twine.   

There are 6 Hitched grommet eyelets around the top of the bag, to which the lanyard is Spliced.

The grip is of  Flax  and contains sections of SCOT and POT Ply-Split braiding, Mathew Walker knots, Turk's-Head knots and a 4 strand square plait loop.

The slider is a Pineapple knot of flax and the button on the base is a Star Knot.
There is a short, seized grommet lanyard on the handle. 

This bag was put up as a prize in the Super Raffle held at the 25th Anniversary meeting of the IGKT in Farham.


Baggy Wrinkle Ditty Bag. 

Baggy Wrinkle is a form of sinnet, made up from short lengths of rope yarn, attached to a doubled length of marline. When wrapped spirally around a section of rigging on a ship it creates a soft fluffy form of chafing gear to help stop the sails from being damaged whilst rubbing against the rigging .

The body of the bag is made from 15oz Cotton Duck, and is  300mm x 175mm.

There are 6 hand stitched grommet eyelets around the top of the bag, to which the lanyard is spliced.

The grip is of  Flax  and contains a section of Baggy Wrinkle, flanked by two pinked leather washers, Star knots, a Turk's-Head knot, and a square knotted loop.

The slider is made from Lignum Vitae, as is the toggle on the bottom of the bag, not shown in the picture is a keeper toggle situated at the end of the loop on the top of the lanyard.
