L.N.E.R. Class C1 4-4-2 No. 3279 (B.R. 62808) at Walton Peterborough on 6th August 1938 The first two coaches behind the tender appear to be an articulated set This engine is photographed in its final 2 cylinder form, unique in having outside Walscharts valve gear - a legacy from its 4 cylinder days. After its rebuilding in 1938 it was allocated to New England M.P.D. In this photograph dated 06/08/1938 the coal in the tender is in bags, probably to measure fuel consumption as the engine was not released to traffic until June 1938.
This locomotive was built by the G.N.R. in 1904 at Doncaster.
