The Selkirk Grace by Robert Burns

Some hae meat and canna eat,
And some wad eat that want it;
But we hae meat, and we can eat,
And sae the Lord be thankit.

Today is Burns' Night, a celebration of the birth of Robbert Burns (famed Scottish poet), with dinner parties feasting on traditional Scottish food - most importantly, haggis - and reading Burns' poetry - most importantly "Address to a Haggis."  For a run down of the typical Burns' night event line up and for the text of his haggis poem, Wikipedia has a good article.   To hear audio versions of Burns poetry the BBC has a page of Burns' Night poems.

In light of this celebration, here is a recent article (download here) from the Veterinary Record, written by three University of Glasgow professors, on applications for ultrasound in pregnancy diagnosis of farmed haggis.  For those of you not terribly interested in cutting edge scientific research, you will still enjoy the pictures!

Have a great Burns' night!
