Although there is a Safeway on Byres Rd at its junction with Great Western, it is very expensive and pretty small. A better choice for walkers is the large Tesco at Maryhill Rd. Its about a ten minute walk from Queen Margaret and is in a small shopping centre which also contains a Farm Foods (very inexpensive frozen foods, cookies, and misc.) and other inexpensive stores.

The other good store is the Mega Safeway at Anniesland Cross. If you catch a bus on Great Western Rd going west, it will take you directly to Anniesland which is where Bearsden Rd meets Great Western. The Safeway is on the Northeast corner.

Vegetables are best found at Roots and Fruits on Byres Rd and also on Great Western (head towards town). For fresh fruit, there is a street vendor that sets up on Byres at Great George street most day. He has good fruit at great prices.
