In March, I had the wonderful opportunity to go on an extended weekend retreat with my church, Glasgow Community Church. The Church had booked out a youth hostel on Loch Lomond at Rowardennan. As to Rowardennan, other than the hostel, there was a hotel with a pub and that summed up the town.

There was plenty of time to sit and watch the lake, hang out with friends, and do a bit of hiking. On the second day, a bunch of us set off to climb Ben Lomond (Ben means Mt.) which is about 3100 feet tall. I have to admit, I only made it about 2000 vertical feet, but nevertheless, the view was incredible.

The following day we hiked a portion of the West Highland Way which runs past the hostel. The WHW is a very well known trail in Scotland which runs for several hundred miles up the west side of Scotland into the highlands. Once we made it to a small town nine miles from the hostel we were to tired to walk back and hired a taxi instead.

In the evenings after dinner, everyone would congregate in the lounge to play games, read, and play guitars. I can't wait for next year!
