I thought I would give you all a few good Scottish recipes to try. If you are in the mood to be a bit more Scottish, food is a great way to do it. The Scots love their food, and you don't have to go to the extrems of Haggis to find something authentically Scottish. All of these recipes are very traditional and can still be found in homes and restaurants. For Scottish ingredients and foods such as authentic Haggis, oat cakes, Irn Bru soft drink, and heather honey, check out the Caldonian Kitchen. They import Scottish foods for sale in the United States. One of my favorites are flapjacks which are sorta like a chewy gronola bar and are very easy to make. This is my recipe which I have adapted to suit my own taste, so feel free to do the same and fuss around with it till you find exactly what you like. Everyone here seems to have their own recipe; all of which use the same ingredients in slightly differnt ratios. Ginger Flapjacks 1 cup light brown sugar Heat sugar, butter, honey, and ginger in a sauce pan over low heat till sugar is dissolved and butter is melted. Add oats and stir well. Press into a small baking dish lined with foil and bake at 350F for 20-30 minutes. Cool completly and turn out. Cut into pieces. Other options include topping with melted chocolate, or substituting jam, coconut, dates, peanut butter, raisons, etc for the ginger. Basically use whatever you feel like to change the flavor.
