Bupadhengo Mother's Union Nursery School

One of the biggest challenges in Ugandan primary education is overcoming the limited basic knowledge students have, due to a lack of nursery education.  The basic knowledge taught to children at nursery school helps pupils make the most of their primary education.  In the more remote and rural areas of Uganda, nursery education is almost non-existent.  We worked with the Mother’s Union and the community to build Bupadhengo Nursery School in 2006.

Past projects have included:

  • 2 classroom nursery school          2006
  • Nursery latrines                                2007

We are very grateful for funds raised by Pat Proud which has enable us to fence the Nursery school playground, so that small children can play in a safe environment, without being bullied by older children.  This project was started in July 2009.

Later in 2009 if funds were available we would like to buy some playground equipment and purchase some slates and chalk for use in class.

The Mother’s Union, organised by Madame Robinah Luevoola, have requested £300 to purchase 3 sewing machines.  These would be used during the afternoon and holidays, once the nursery children have gone home, to teach the girls who have dropped out of education, due to lack of funds or through being pregnant, a skill to bring in a few Ugandan shillings to alleviate poverty.
