Bupadhengo Secondary School

At present there are over 70 girls who are boarding at Bupadhengo Secondary School.  Currently there is no proper dormitory for these girls so they are sleeping in two classrooms, with no beds, just a mattress on the floor.  These classrooms are needed for lessons as the school’s enrolment continues to rise.  The construction of the dormitory will allow class sizes to be reduced as well as accommodating the female boarders.

In June 2009 Charlie van Straubenzee (Henry’s younger brother) and his friend Tom Brooksbank both ran in the gruelling Kenyan marathon.  Thanks to the generousity of many friends they have raised the necessary funds to build two dormitories, with two extra small rooms attached.  One room for a matron and the other as storeroom for washing bowls and cooking equipment. We are incredibly grateful to all who donated.

The photo on the right, taken at the end of July, shows the foundations complete and the builders working on the walls.

We are also hoping to be able to provide 8 extra latrines and 4 teachers' houses during 2009.
