Kifuyo Secondary School

Kifuyo Secondary School is located in south east Uganda, in an area that is rural, remote and neglected.  It is the only secondary school for 15 miles and there are an abundance of primary schools which could feed it but at the moment the school is in its infancy and is desperately ill-equipped to meet the challenge.  It sits on a large 17 acre site and therefore there is sufficient land for extra buildings.

In April 2009 Laura McGowan and Harry Savory ran in the London marathon and thanks to the funds that they raised we are in a position to build 2 extra classrooms.  The school will then have four classrooms, which will accommodate 4 years of students, as at present 2 classes are being held in the make shift building seen in the photo to the right.   This will hopefully mean that parents will be very keen to send their children and support the school.

Chrisopher Foyle and Rufus Gordon Dean, also ran the London Marathon, and the funds that they raised are going towards the construction of 6 teachers’ houses.  At present none of the teachers live at the school and are walking huge distances morning and night instead of being on site and having more time to prepare and mark lessons.

We are incredibly grateful for all the sums raised and we hope to begin building in the Autumn.
