‘Sunnyside Up!’ is a lighthearted romp telling the tale of a week at Sunnyside Holiday Camp in the late 1950s. This farcical comedy features plenty of upbeat music from the Fifties as well as a fast-moving storyline and great characters.
Key players in the week are the Thompson family. Formidable Brummy housewife Mrs Thompson has come to Sunnyside with her son Michael and her brother Paul to get over the disappearance of her husband Tony. Little does she know that Tony is already at the holiday camp, masquerading as Antonio Dewallio, Latin Love God and singing sensation!
Paul and Michael are up to their own tricks, teaming up with fellow guest Susan to try to get their big break as a rock and roll band at Sunnyside’s Last Night Cabaret. But will Mrs Thompson drag them all home before they get their chance?
Meanwhile, dancer Cathy is engaged to foolish camp manager Leslie, but secretly in love with her partner Chris. Can true love win through in time? Entertainment Manager Benjamin Brewster is trying to persuade his glamorous Greencoats to assist him with his dodgy magic tricks, but he is constantly pursued by the annoying Kid. Can he escape and will he ever get a trick right?
With a very camp photographer, children’s entertainers who keep losing the children, a burly PT instructor and a ruthless gang of Glamorous Grannies, ‘Sunnyside Up!’ is a hilarious production that is bound to keep your audience and your cast well entertained!
‘Sunnyside Up!’ features Fifties favourites from Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, the Ponytails and Connie Francis to name a few. It also includes three numbers specially written for the show, the upbeat opening number ‘Seaside Sunnytown Rock’, ‘The Sunnyside Square Dance’ and a comical look at the joy of British holidays ‘Wish you’d stop raining on me!’
