Previous Events

Here are some slightly older events that my students and I have attended.  I know it's old news and I could just delete them, but some of these were milestones I don't want to  forget just yet...

CAIRO - March 2010

Yes, I was off to Cairo again with Anne Kinston and Kay Taylor of Farida Dance.  Great time, as always.  Highlights for me were visiting the Om Kolsom museum, experiencing Zar singing, taking a felucca ride and dancing in the room well past bedtime with drunken friends (you know who you are!).

The stunningly beautiful Om Kolthoum, a famous Egyptian singer.

Me on that damn camel.  Sunset ride to the pyramids, but my cocyx could feel his spine for days!      A cupboard full of melalya frocks!

Penrith Hafla

The Penrith annual hafla was held on March 27th in the Penrith Conservative Club (a new venue for us).  As always, it was a great night with a wonderful show of dancing from local and visiting dancers.  My Appleby students dancing as 'Al-ila', did themselves proud, performing with veils to 'Amr al Hawa' (Mohamed Mounir).  For some it was their first time performing and they were very nervous, but there was no need (nor any need for that last minute rehearsal in the car park) they did Just Fine!  (Photo - mark Williamson)

Cairo 2008

In October 2008 I joined a Farida Adventures holiday with Kay Taylor and Anne Kingston to discover the delights of Cairo.  I had an absolutely wonderful time succumbing completely to Cairo's charm.
