The secret is out. All the months of hard work and meetings in smoke filled rooms have led to this moment. Rhiwbina RFC are applying to build a purpose built clubhouse above the existing changing rooms at Caedelyn Park and have the initial support of the WRU, Cardiff Parks Department , our local AM Jonathan Morgan and Lord Mayor Gareth Neale. Below is a sketch of what we hope to achieve but we still have a lot of hard work to do and a lot of hurdles to overcome so it is not in the bag yet. The club will have a bar,(open Thursday & Friday 7-10pm-Saturday 12-10pm and Sunday 12-3pm) kitchen, dining rooms, large hall, committee meeeting rooms, storage/laundry etc and the changing rooms downstairs will be upgraded to provide us with our own home/away rooms and kit storage. We will use the main pitch opposite the clubhouse and have proper training lights. There will be a kiosk for refreshments/snacks during matchdays.
The Clubhouse will be available for hire during the week to nurseries/dance groups/OAP Societies/etc from the community.
We would appreciate everyones support for this project that would ensure the future of officially the 'biggest club in Wales' on player membership and redirect much needed finances back into Rhiwbina RFC instead of the Recreation Club. We have had a great association with the Rec over the last 40 years and hope to continue our relationship with them in some shape or form but we have grown to such an extent in recent years that it is putting a strain on the Rec to accommodate us and this facility would solve all the problems we currently face.
In reality the writing was on the wall when we were effectively kicked off our home pitch at Rhiwbina Junior School and our changing rooms flattened a few years back and that traumatic event may well now have a happy and exciting end-so thanks to the people involved in evicting us-you have done us a great favour!
More details will be released shortly but we need to get the residents of Rhiwbina on our side and show them that we will be an assett to an area plagued with crime and disorder and that we would improve safety in the park for everyone.
Anyone with any suggestions as to assisting the funding of this project do not hesitate to contact me or Robby!
