Whitchurch Hospital H
Rhiwbina 3rds led by Captain Tony Bartlett and Vice Captain Chris 'Chukka' Mckenzie played a strong Rogerstone 2nds in a friendly at Whitchurch Hospital and was the only game played this weekend with the first having a free Saturday because of the KM Cup and Barry 2nds bottling out of a game against our seconds just 30 mins before kick off. Cheers guys!
All Squirrels fans then headed for the Hospital to enjoy this hard fought game between two competitive sides.
Andrew Hughes mesmerised the crowd with his slight of hand with the ball and in getting a try. He has inherited the mantle of ex player Brian 'Hands of Glass' Sparks with his amazing dexterity.
Good to see veterans Simon Brockway,Rossco, Rhino, Freddy and Champy getting a gallop as well.
Also great to see Mohair back and fully recovered from a serious shoulder operation to his nose!
A 'Die Hard' debut for John 'Call me Dave' Mclean in the pack and the two Webster triplets were exciting in the backs with one of them also bagging a try. Young Joe Cassella was excellent at scrum half and his pace proved the difference as he burst away for a try under the posts.
To be fair to Rogerstone they put the Squirrels under enormous pressure for periods of the game and scored a well worked converted try and an early penalty to keep them in the game.
The Rhiwbina side were just a little too strong in the closing stages and deserved the win.
Rhiwbina 3rds 19-10 Rogerstone 2nds.
