One of the only games to go ahead due to the parks being called off led to an entertaining encounter between local rivals Whitchurch against Rhiwbina Seconds. The Squirrels Seconds have had a great season only losing a few fixtures so far and had a strong team out for this encounter despite the weather.
The Seconds got off to a flying start on the back of an awesome set of scrums that released the backs and led to a number of touchdowns for outside half Danny Hobbs and Mohair.
To be fair to Whitchurch their backline cut through us on a number of occassions and this led to a touchdown under the posts for their centre that was duly converted. The score was 12-7 at this stage before the Squirrels cut loose and began to run in tries from all areas despite the awful weather and conditions. Alvin impressed with some barnstorming runs and the whole side gave a great account of themselves!
Rhiwbina continued to pile on the pressure in the scrums and mauls and this led to a total of 10 tries in all. 4 for Danny in a Man of the Match performance, 2 for Andy, 1 for Mohair, 1 for Girth, 1 for Rod and 1 for Boughton with a few conversions took the final score to 60-7
As the pitch got worse the Ref thankfully called time early to everyones relief.
A great result for Dave Hobbs team and an enjoyable night was had by all back at the club.
Next week it's the big one-The top of the table clash between Rhiwbina 1sts and Ferndale away -the Club are laying on a bus-let us know if you want to be on it as spaces are limited.
A Happy New Year to all our players, committee, supporters, sponsors and their families. Lets hope 2007 will be as good as 2006.
COME ON THE SQUIRRELS!!!!
