Nature Conservation - Bird Life

Coed Craig Ruperra is home to many species of bird. Most common woodland species can be seen here. The UK Biodiversity Action Plan Priority Species found here include song thrush, bullfinch, linnet and spotted flycatcher. These are all species that have declined by over 60% on average in the last 25 years.

Other species to be found throughout the year include the secretive goshawk, buzzard, robin, blackbird and mistle thrush, whilst the hill sings to the melodies of numerous willow warblers and

blackcaps during the spring and summer. Winter brings its own specialities, with parties of hundreds of redwing and fieldfare using the food resources of the woodland, bringing colour and sound to the drab winter days.

Many other species can be seen during a leisurely walk around this varied habitat. A British Trust for Ornithology team has been netting and ringing birds in Coed Ruperra. You can see their findings here.
