Formerly the site would have held a glorious flora, and despite its treatment in the twentieth century, it still hangs onto some special plants.
A Welsh speciality, the wild daffodil, can be found here, whilst species that tell of its ancient woodland status include dogs mercury, yellow archangel, bluebell and ramsons. Other plants that provide us with that unique woodland experience are common dog-violet and wood sorrel.
Many plants are also indicative of the more open and disturbed nature of parts of the site and include scarlet pimpernel, prickly sow thistle and marsh cudweed.
As the new plantings mature, many of the more important plant species will be able to re-colonise the woodland, and the future holds a promise as spectacular as the woodland's distant past.
For a list of species see the information board on site.
