In 2001 Ruperra Conservation Trust received a management grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and by the end of the winter in March 2002 the woodland had been replanted with native broadleaf seedlings - ash, oak, rowan, alder and hazel.
Work began on the grading and surfacing of the neglected tracks and a permissive bridleway was created and planted with tough grass seed.
Clearing the site of the bracken, bramble and laurel is being taken on by the Trust's volunteers and by other groups of work parties and contractors.
The Trust hopes to make Coed Craig Ruperra a pleasant place for quiet enjoyment and to encourage the ancient wildlife to return.
