What Next?
Part of the fun of owning an old car is the dashing off to the garage to tinker when the kids / wife / mother-in-law are getting on your nerves. Below is a list of jobs that I am looking to complete over the next year or two.
Electrical
- Air horns initially sounded like a great idea, I must admit that I have got bored with them and look to replace them with a pair of original spec Stag horns (Antlers?!?), update (late 2005) I now have a pair (of Antlers) in my shed and just need the bracket to mount them to the car.
Drivetrain
- I still have an issue whereby the rear axle eats a diff nose bearing every 3k miles or so.2007 I found that the quill shaft was running very slightly out of true so I replaced this with another from the shelf, watch this space! Dec 2009 and still ok. holding breath... March 2011 and still going
- Need to replace rear subframe bushes and check straps - already have parts
- Still running on same brake pads and shoes fitted just after I bought the car. I plan to replace all flexi hoses and the master cylinder rigid pipes, this will definately tidy that part of the engine bay. The fluid is also due for a change.
- I need to understand what makes the n/s back end of the car bounce up and down at low speeds. Chances are that a tyre has squared off. This feature was especially evident on Enginuity's rolling road.
- fit new engine mountings
Interior
- Door Panels have warped slightly, the clips struggle to hold them in place because the screw that goes through the arm rest on each side is missing.
- Rear side panels have lots of screw holes in them from the spearer installations over the years. I need to get a better pair, and fit smaller speaker panels into the cubby holes.
- leather seats nead feed and clean, also slight colour issue with drivers seat bolster.
- need to tidy the outside top corners of the rear seat
Body and Trim
- Couple of small bits that I am unhappy about after the body restoration, these are minor quality issues that all but a rivet counter would discount.
- Fit new headlamp surrounds
