people’s charter ‘06
WE, THE PEOPLE, DEMAND:

1. A vote for all persons aged 16 and over;

2. A government that protects our liberty by adhering to international law, respecting our right to freedom of thought and expression and upholding our civil liberties;

3. A government that actively engages citizens with democracy by listening to and valuing their opinions;

4. Greater efforts to tackle prejudice and encourage tolerance;

5. That measures be taken to ensure our environment is protected, to include full implementation of the Kyoto Treaty and investment in renewable energy;

6. Increased investment in community projects and facilities.

We, the undersigned, endorse the people’s charter ’06 and call upon the government to implement it immediately and in its entirety…

The Charter ‘06 priorities were selected by 6th Form students at The Ridings School following shortlisting by Yorkshire and the Humber Youth Parliament members for presentation to MPs at Halifax's Chartist Festival, July 2006.
