Harvey (03-02-2006 - present)

Of the four puppies in the litter Harvey was the one that went off on his own, refusing to follow the crowd. He reminded me of me, and he came home with us the following day. He settled in straight away and made the garden his own, preferring to stay out there during the warm Summer evenings. Like most Westies he's independent and stubborn. Luckily, he's also cute.

9 weeks old

Having made the garden his own it wasn't long before he took over the house. He has his favourite places, his little routines, and a healthy appetite. Unlike Scooter, who was a selective when it came to dog foods and treats, Harvey will wolf down almost anything you give him. He's more rough and tumble too, but when he tires and closes those eyes he can look so sweet and adorable.

4 months and cute

Strong, independent, self reliant and intelligent, Harvey is developing into a determined character. The world around him is still fascinating, particularly when the birds come down to feed, or people walk past. He has a bark that suggests a much larger dog. But that's typical of Westies - size is irrelevant, it's character that counts.

10 months and growing

Harvey likes to pretend he's asleep in case some unsuspecting squirrels or birds come by. better still, next door's cat might wander over. Then he springs into action and chases them out of the garden with such glee you can't help laughing.

1 year 1month

Harvey's now quite at home, settled into his place on the sofa. From here he can watch the front door and most of the lounge. If he wants to sleep he jumps up onto the back cushion and snuggles up, one eye on the garden in case a pigeon or dove drops by for a feed.

It's definitely a dog's life
