“Dear Theophilus”  

When we had a house group meeting just after I finished the picture we were looking

at chapter 1 of ACTS. 

It struck me then that this would make a good title. To me the picture was meant to depict: 

• The spreading of the word of God – “the light across the land”.

• “Opening of the way to heaven”  “Access to God for all” – the halo of light to heaven. 

• The Gift of the Holy Spirit – “The Father the Son and the Holy Spirit represented top right” 

• The view of Jesus on the cross, from behind – is deliberate, looking “outward to the world”.

It all seemed to say, as indeed the Acts of the Apostles records:

How early followers spread the word across the land. 

How they used the Holy Spirit to achieve this. 

Jesus’ last command and promise… 

The theme asks :-

What came next after the ascension of Jesus?  Acts is the answer!  Hence, Dear Theophilis the beginning of the book…
