As well as our success in the show ring, and
although we don’t compete in the working disciplines, a number of Samphrey
Shelties have had success in agility and obedience as a result of the skill and
dedication of their owners and handlers.
The working Samphrey Shelties can all trace
back to one particular bloodline. In 1999 we were lucky enough to buy a Ch
Malaroc Melting Tears daughter from Lyn Roberts. Malaroc
Maid In The Dark for Samphrey (Kayleigh) did not prove to be a successful
show dog, but we had a litter from her in 2000 by Shelridge Saatchi which
resulted in Samphrey Moonlight Sonata at Alshel (Foster), owned by Margaret
Hicks, a regular winner in the breed and Samphrey In Starlight
(Zoe) who, as a youngster, was a consistent winner in the breed.
After her litter was weaned, Kayleigh was
sold to Marion Jones and has been successfully worked in agility ever since.
Zoe was mated to Felthorn Careless Love in
2002 producing Samphrey Summertime Blue (Lulu) and
Samphrey Midnight Star (Kaz), owned and trained by Eve Bearman who competes in
obedience.
Lulu was then mated to Mohnesee Mr Palmer JW
in 2004, and produced Samphrey The Jazz Singer (Jazz) owned by Angela Hopkins
and worked in agility, and Samphrey Sugar Babe at Pencoppen (Tia), owned and
trained by Anne Lampier, who not only competes in obedience, but is also
enjoying a successful show career. Tia has now whelped a litter by Samphrey
Shadow Man (Scott). There are 2 puppies, Pencoppen Honeysuckle (Jenna) will
compete in breed and Pencoppen Black Knight (Seamus) will compete in obedience.
In 2005 Zoe was mated to Malaroc The Master
Clown, a Ch Malaroc Melting Tears son, resulting in Samphrey
Star Performer (Lou). Owned and trained by Theresa Davies, Lou was 1st in
Novice Obedience at the ESSC Ch Show in 2006, his first competition, and was 4th
in Class A. At the ESSC Open Show in 2007, Lupi again won Novice and was
3rd in Class "A". Almost always in the Top 10, Lou's first all breed win was 1st
in Novice at Petersfield Obedience Ch Show in June 2007. He was 1st in Class "A"
Obedience at the ESSC Open Show in February 2008 & at the ESSC Championship Show
in October 2008. Lou's first all breed win in
Class "A" was at Culverstone in May 2008, his second was at South Eastern DTC
in July 2009 and his third was at Billingshurst DTC in August 2009. He was 1st in Class
"B" at Halstead in August 2009.
Theresa and Lou were part of the
winning Southern Team in the Crufts 2008 and 2009 Inter-Regional Obedience Competitions,
with Lou coming second in Class "A" in 2009.
