  • ANNUAL MEETING: A well-attended Sandal Community Association AGM heard chairperson Gail Stephenson report on a busy year that had, among other achievements, seen the launch of the gardening club. A number of events are planned for the next 12 months, including wine and cheese evenings, charity coffee mornings, afternoon tea dances and a ceildh. There will again be one of the popular annual social events that follow the Christmas tree lights switch-on at the end of November and this year there will be a special guest in the form of Santa Claus. The meeting, held at Sandal Endowed School on Tuesday, June 9, re-elected the committee with the addition of Ray Watson.

  • POLICE REPORT: At the public meeting that followed the community association’s meeting at Sandal Endowed School, Pc Chris Ellam presented the West Yorkshire Police Pledge relating to community policing of the area. He answered a series of questions ranging from house burglaries to dangerous parking, from speeding to drunken youths. If there are issues which concern you, contact the Neighbourhood Policing Team on 01924 293256 or through the main police switchboard on 0845 6060606.

  • COLOURFUL EFFORT: Well done to members of the new gardening club who have added an extra splash of colour to Sandal with their first public project. They planted out the large roadside tub near the shops on Standbridge Lane, first cleaning the setts on which the tub stands. Those involved were Jane Driver, Kath Wright and Judi Fewster, who planted out the central conifer on her return from holiday. They were helped by Mrs and Mrs J Hirst.

  • CHARITY COFFEE: The coffee morning organised by Sandal Community Association in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support was held  at the Castle Inn,

  • LITTER-PICK: Sandal Community Association’s litter-pick on Saturday went well although chairman Gail Stephenson said:  “Litter seems to have reduced and there are more bins, but we would like to have more support to keep on top of the situation. These events are a positive thing and the association will continue to organise them.”

  • COMMUNITY: The next Sandal Community Association committee meeting will take place on Wednesday 7 October. Any issues that residents would like placed on the agenda should be raised with the chairman, Gail Stephenson.
