Claude Williams was educated at Christ Church Oxford where he gained a Bachelor
degree in 1911 and a Masters in 1918. His theological education was at the
Bishop's College, Cheshunt. He was made deacon in 1913 and served his title at
the parish of St Frideswide, Poplar as well as serving as an honorary Chaplain
to the Forces. His second curacy in 1919 was at the church of St Mary of Eton,
Hackney Wick. In 1921 he was appointed Precentor of Christ Church Cathedral,
Oxford and in 1926 became a Minor Canon of Westminster Abbey. It was after this
appointment that Fr Williams became Vicar of St Saviour's until 1944 when be
became Rector of Upton with Chalvey (Slough) in the diocese of Oxford. |
