Fr Guy Hetherington gained his Bachelor and Masters degrees at Leeds University and studied for the ministry at the College of the Resurrection, Mirfield. He was made deacon in 1929 and served his title in the parish of St Thomas, Stockport. In 1931 he was appointed Rector of St George's Church Antigua, coming back to serve a second curacy in Oxted. In 1939 he was appointed Rector of Thorn with Ruishton and in 1944 came to St Saviour's as Vicar.
