The Poet

Elizabeth Pryse Hawkins

I want to makethe starlight sing and colours laugh with words.
I want to make the hills grow wise and deepest caverns shake with words.
I want to make a secret seen and hidden things shine forth with words.
I want to reach the ocean depths and distant galaxies with words.
Like birds they must break from their shells.
Stretch out their new found  words and battling the storm reach highest peaks

My words should be like liquorice, sweet and smooth upon the tongue.
Confectionary of thought that sweetens souls.
Like music, rhythms beating in the mind , to make men dance
To sing, to laugh, to cry with unexpected joy.

I want to capture words.
To tame them, make them do my will.
Then send them to dark minds to light dark souls.
So much for my desires.
The words are still imprisoned in my thought
Still struggling to be free.
