The above is the first map where property 3 appears.

 

The names tie in with the 1841 and also the 1851 Census details. All three properties are again named “Denton Mill” in the 1841 and 1851 Census.

Property 4 is a new property appearing on the above map. This property was not on the 1850 Tithe Map.

1901 Census – John Simpson – Farmer and Miller.  Property was then called Denton Mill.

 

5. Joseph Thompson

 

1901 Census – Joseph Thompson – Railway Platelayer. Property was then called Denton Cottage.

 

There has been a succession of buildings at Denton Mill. The oldest surviving cottage is property number 1. The current Denton Mill Farm and its outbuildings was built between 1850 and 1865. Properties 2 and 3 have also been known as Denton Mill. Property 2 had ceased to exist by 1881 and property 3 had ceased to exist by 1861.

One possible reason for the succession of properties known as Denton Mill is the fact that the area can flood.
