The South East Falconry Group - 25 years of supporting falconry and falconers in the South and East of England

The South East Falconry Group was formed in 1981 just prior to the 1981 Wildlife and Countryside Act. The Club draws it members from the whole of the South and East of England and is fortunate in having members with skills in every aspect of keeping, breeding and hunting birds of prey.

We meet on the last Tuesday of every month (except December) at the Tilbury Community Association building Tilbury, Essex and on the first Tuesday of each month at the Percy Hobbs pub just outside Winchester, Hampshire. Meetings commence at 8pm for 8.30 start and the general format is to discuss club business, followed by a practical demonstration, talk or video and concluding, time permitting, by a general discussion.Next meeting.

The SEFG also prides itself on the high standard of its flying displays which it provides at a limited number of major country shows each year. In recent years the committee have encouraged the production of a Club journal and this has proven to be a great success. It's produced by our members and contains articles on training, their hawking experiences, practical tips, news articles and other items of interest.

Throughout the hunting season the Club holds field meetings for both long and shortwing enthusiasts. These are arranged on a fortnightly basis and every couple of years we hold a great two or three day meet where everyone can get together and have a real good hawking and talking session.

The Clubs Aims and Objectives are to continue to provide:

  • A forum in which falconers can meet informally and to talk hawking
  • A means by which falconry and raptor keeping can be promoted with special regard to the conservational role undertaken by its members and other Clubs or raptor organisations throughout the UK
  • To assist individuals and other organisations in developing the skills necessary to undertake and improve raptor management
  • To develop and resource the Clubs internal breeding and information projects
  • To ensure that the Club is run by members for members
  • To defend falconers rights to practice falconry in its true sense
