Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness worldwide and believe it or not over 1.3 million cataract operations are successfully performed in the United States each year. It seems to affect the aged more and removal of cataracts is the most common surgery for Americans over the age of 65. |
|
Cataract surgery today, in the hands of an experienced surgeon using the latest techniques, is extremely successful. Over 95% of patients undergoing cataract surgery today have an excellent surgical result and restoration of good vision. The procedure is performed with local anaesthesia and vision is normally recovered within in 1-7 days. |

Cayce treatment |
|
The general cause which Cayce gave was impaired circulation and elimination’s leading to accumulations in the sensory system. Other causes included spinal lesions and sublaxations digestive problems, diet, which often was lacking, mental attitudes, mechanical injury. But in most of these cases poor circulation and elimination were the final mechanisms that allowed the cataracts to form. So just clearing the cataract with an operation does not get at the cause and the formation of these must surely point to other problems. In fact Cayce did say that there was a chance of reforming if corrections were not made. |

Osteopathy |
|
Adjustments to the spine –upper cervical and dorsal segments Cervical 123 Dorsal 123 sometimes in the lower dorsal co-ordinating with the upper lumbar. Frequency about twice weekly for 5-6 weeks with rest periods of 3-2 weeks. This was the most common treatment advised by Cayce. |

Massage |
|
Mostly with peanut oil and a combination of oils see files –frequency varied. Twice weekly seemed reasonable though in one instance daily massage was required before sleep. Emphasis was to the spine mastoid and chin areas sometimes to the neck and other areas. |

Violet ray treatment |
|
Sometimes recommended after the first series of osteopathic adjustments had been carried out. Apply along the spine, head and neck areas for three mins, then use the double eye applicator over closed eyes for another 1-1.5 mins, and use this about three times per week. |
|
A glycothymoline or Epsom salt pack may be used over the same areas for 20-30 mins prior to the violet ray treatments. Note discharge may occur with these treatments. This should be wiped off with a non-irritating antiseptic solution. |
|
A potato poultice may also be used after the violet ray. Wash off with a weak solution that will remove inflammation drawn by the poultice. |
|
Eliminations 1-2 times a day using natural laxatives e.g. ENO salts, Fletchers castoria, Bicarbonate of soda with cracker crumbs. Colonics if necessary. |

Diet |
|
A wholesome diet rich in fruits and vegetables, seafood’s are allowed but no meats or sweets .Raw carrots lettuce, celery, watercress and the like are advised well. |

979-10 Female age 69 Cayce said that an operation could be avoided if the general strength of the body could be stimulated. Violet ray advised with the double applicator for 0.5-1 min every other day. Five years later a letter of appreciation was forthcoming saying how much she had been helped and the cataract was removed with no operation. |

1438Female78 Cayce found complications with this person, problems with the eyes and hearing, he also added that this person’s mental attitude was having a detrimental effect upon the body. |

1861Male33 From birth to age 4 this person was almost blind. Operations followed which removed cataracts from his eye gradually so as not to damage his sight. Then he was told that he would have to rely on glasses. Following the Cayce regime, {osteopathic and electrical treatments} in the main this person gained the use of his left eye for reading purposes. X-ray pictures confirmed the trouble in the spine. General improvements all round were found. |

2600-1female62 Deaf and almost blind conditions had almost become constitutional. Eliminations sited as cause with lesions in the spine. The wet cell carrying gold was suggested for an activity to the centres, which supply from the cerobosinal area to the nerves in the facial centres that supply hearing and vision. |

A report from a lady who went to eye specialist and was told that when cataracts start to grow nothing will stop them and even her specialist laughed when the lady asked if exercises and sunflower seed would help. She sent for the file on cataracts and started some of the Cayce regime improvements were noted and the specialist asked the lady if she was doing anything he did not know about. After the other comments she did not reveal her information. |

57-1 female 69 Elimination problems in the upper body, hence inflammation in the face head Antrim nerves in antrum and sinus, throat obstructions, eyes were distorted in their vision. Osteopathic adjustments, deep manipulation, the ultraviolet ray and the use of the infra red ray. Apply the ultra violet to the cerebrospinal or to the back and the infra red to the front from the upper cervical the brachial and the solar plexus centre. Of note, mentioned to use antiseptics to keep clean the condition in the throat, the eye, and the nasal cavity so that infectious forces, which are thrown off by the respiratory, do not reinfect again. 1491male 75 Cayce found an injury to the neck and head to this man which was causing thinned walls of the circulation which was producing a haemorrhage. Again osteopathic adjustments were to be given – upper dorsal and through the cervical advised, twice a week for 4-5 weeks and then left off. Electrical treatments advised.The man consulted other specialists and was in a dilemma having been told that the electrical treatments could jeopardise his sight – he listened to these people and did not follow the treatment. |

1561-7male 58Cayce found neglect with this person and asked if this person is willing to pay the price in the material, from the money standpoint as well as the prayer and meditation. Improvements would follow. Electrical treatments made by Erlanger were advised to the injured areas so as to clear the cornea of growth, with the replacement of the torn retina you may gain 50-75% more vision than you have presently. Take the treatment 2-3 times a week for 6-8 weeks then rest for 2-3 weeks then resume the cycle. Then consider an operation for the torn retina Cayce counselled this man about mental attitude and this playing a part in the mans life. Do unto others, as you would have other do unto thee. Pray often and live as you pray in the same manner and according to the faith in him who is able to restore thy whole body be it unto you. |

2178 female age 3 Cayce found an injury with a piece of metal that needed removing by a specialist who was well versed with eye problems and their examination .He also said following the removal a spot or cataract would form. He advised keeping the eyes shaded and use cold applications and belladonna which would be gradually diminished. After about two weeks osteopathic adjustments would be given to stimulate circulation to the optic areas – upper dorsal through the cervical area. Then the Erlanger treatment – electrical using some form of crystal. Diet as already outlined earlier. Once a month for five days give atomidine one minim in half a glass of water Start again in the next month for 6-8 months, this will stimulate and clarify the glandular system. |

3168-1 male adult Of interest here Cayce found with this person, toxic conditions in the body accumulating in the face and head. Treatment consisted of the usual osteopathic adjustments and the use of glycothymoline packs applied to the back of the neck and over the eyes for 20-30- mins each day. Use 4-5 thickneses of cotton cloth saturated with glycothymonline. Do not heat. Use ENO salts in the morning, a teaspoon before the meal is taken .Of note was a question posed by the patient regarding removing some of his teeth, this said Cayce would help the cataract removal presumably the toxins from these teeth were causing problems in the body as a whole. |

3288-1male 79 Toxins were found with this person in the circulation between the cerebrospinal nervous system and the sensory organism. Treatment advised by Cayce was to have Swedish baths 1-2 times per week. This will remove poisons out of the superficial circulation, these should be steam sweats not fume baths. Osteopathic misalignments again were at the seat of the trouble. After the baths massage with a mixture of olive oil 2oz, peanut oil 2oz,Oil of pine needles 0.25 oz, Lanollin liquefied 0.25 oz, Massage in just what the body will absorb, massage away from the brain in a circular motion either side of the spine Diet as already outlined |

3288-2male79 a check reading was undertaken Cayce mentioned that the head need not be covered for the sweats and to use a tablespoon of witchazel to a pint of boiling water in the cabinet which should have 2 60watt bulbs in it to vaporise the water. Also the radioactive appliance was mentioned as an aid for keeping balance between the upper and lower circulation and this could be used 2-3 times a week. |

3335-1male 72 of note in this reading is mention by Cayce that a partially paralysed eye lid would be helped by massages to the 123 cervicals 123 dorsals and the neck area. Cayce also said at length that the eye problems are a reflection of the attitudes towards things about him. Here the person has closed his eyes to the cries of those about him .He might have helped and now look what is happening. This person was also going deaf! |

3477-1male23 Here Cayce advised that little can be done until the cataracts had been removed operatively then the usual treatment was outlined to prevent further growths. Mentioned was a massage mixture which consisted of olive oil 1oz, tincture of myrrh 1oz, calamus oil 0.25oz.Cataracts should be removed at the proper time, there were better times to do this and their must be some relationship to this and their growth. Also mentioned was a little ear trouble, this said Cayce would be helped by the massages and corrections. Also mentioned by Cayce was that too much coffee and smoking, with milk was very dangerous. |

3566-1male 70 Improper assimilation was sited the cause with this man, the same kind of treatment was required as previously outlined but with a massage formulae of 2oz nujol or usoline, 1oz olive oil, 0.5oz oil of pine needles 0.25oz of sassafras root, 0.5oz of lanolin- mix well. Also take Kaldak for a tonic, a teaspoon in a glass of milk, take in the morning and then in the afternoon, take for 14 days then leave off for 5 days, the then same cycle for two more times .Use Irish potato as in the form of a poultice to the eyes, daily or every other day for cleansing. |

5451-1male adult Cayce found a local condition to be a problem bringing inflammation to the retina and to the ducts which supply the nutriments and remove the toxins from the eyeball, lids and the frontal portion or lens itself. This was a more a constitutional condition than an organic one. An operation would not be beneficial at this time and could cause loss of sight to one or both eyes .He was advised to go under different supervision and then treatment would be specified. A further reading was given and Cayce told this person that unless there is a change in his attitude where he must feel that the treatment would be correct, there would not come the healing that he desired. He advised change the environment and treatment would be given. When asked where was the best place, Cayce replied that any place where he would not be under the supervision that he has had and he must change his attitude to be convinced that the treatment will work or is the best that can be done. If there was not the change of attitude then the soul must learn by itself. On the third reading Cayce gave warnings not to operate as this would |

mean loss of one of the eyes, no improvements had been made in any other manner, Irish potatoes as in a poultice were advised, as was the violet ray but not to the eyeball but to the base of the brain and to the 3-4 cervical centres and then follow up either side of the ear for at least 3-5 mins for 10-15 days. Osteopathic adjustments advised. Diet as already outlined. A fourth reading was given Cayce found a contraction of congestion, which really is not relevant to the cataracts. Cayce insisted that the treatment was not being followed closely enough and advised that things will not improve until they are. In the sixth reading the violet ray was added with the double applicator to the eyes and along the 123 dorsal and 345 cervical. Take the sweat baths, as this will relax the body, fume baths would be better but the dry sweat baths will be good. Apply the ultraviolet ray to the junctions of the sympathetic and cerebrospinal in the dorsal and cervical region, 3-5 mins. Keep the potatoes up when needing to cleanse the eyes. Do not do any eye exercises until drainage’s are well set up in the eyes, for exercise will cause more irritation .An operation was advised if the treatment could not be carried out in the sixth reading, presumably there had been enough change to make it viable. The out come of the operation would have much to do with his own mental attitude and of those that the person has around it. |

There were many other cases in the files, which followed along the normal treatment, which Cayce gave. He was quite consistent with his applications to this problem. |
