Weekend Meets

The club runs weekend meets approximately every second week throughout the year. These cover a wide range of venues throughout the Highlands and the inner Islands, with occasional trips to Galloway, the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales.

Booking On

The club meets secretary will take bookings at Thursday pub nights. You can book onto a meet up to three weeks in advance. If the meet is oversubscribed on the second Thursday beforehand, places are allocated by ballot.

Accomodation

Accomodation for meets is usually in a bunkhouse or a mountaineering club huts. There are also a number of camping meets during the warmer parts of the year, and Inver Croft(the club's own hut) is used regularly. The standard of accomodation varies. Mountaineering club huts tend to be well placed for the mountains but basic and inexpensive. Many of the bunkhouses now used by the club are very comfortable, and some even boast saunas or hot tubs.

The typical cost for meet accomodation is between £3 and £10 per night.

Transport

Transport is usually by private car. The meet secretary can help to coordinate this. There may be special arrangements when ferries are involved.

What to Bring

In addition to all your normal walking or climbing gear, you will normally require a sleeping bag and sometimes a mat. You should bring enough food and drink for the weekend. It is helpful to coordinate your cooking arrangements in advance, to make best use of the facilities.

Activities on Meets

The club organises accomodation, and can coordinate transport, but it does not organise activities on meets. Members are responsible for organising these themselves, and for ensuring that they are suitably equipped for what they decide to do.

Evening Meets

Tuesday Evening Rock-Climbing

Between April and August the club coordinates climbing at suitable crags. Popular local sites such as Traprain Law and the sea-cliffs at Aberdour may be visited several times through the summer. When daylight allows, we may go to more distant areas, such as Northumberland and Dunkeld, while on other evenings we may be as close to home as Salisbury Crags, on Arthur's Seat.

Wednesday Evening Hillwalking

The Pentland Hills.

We run a series of evening hillwalks from late May until the end of July. Most of these are to nearby ranges, such as the Pentlands, Lammermuirs, Moorfoots and Ochils etc. Close to midsummer, some go a bit further, and the traditional 'Midsummer Munro' has taken us as far as Schiehallion for the evening.
