Club HistoryThe club was formed in 1974, to fill a perceived niche in the Edinburgh scene. The new club's innovations included an open membership policy. Unlike their main rival at the time, applicants for membership did not have to be nominated or approved by existing members. In an even more progressive move, the club allowed women members. The new club soon had over 30 members, and since then membership has grown to reach 170. From the start, the club encompassed a broad range of activities. Members would soon be making significant mountaineering achievements, and many founders can still be seen climbing at high grades. Over the years, the club has evolved in many ways, and made acquisitions such as a club hut, but it still remains commited to open membership and a broad range of mountaineering activities at all levels. Origins of the club name.
