Jacobites Christmas Ceilidh

The social event of the season otherwise known as the Jacobites Christmas Ceilidh
will be held on Friday 7th December at the Counting House, 32 West Nicolson Street
starting at 7:30 pm. The Marwicks Ceilidh Band will be strumming their catchy tunes.
Tickets cost £7 in advance or £8 on the door. Tickets are available from the new social
secretary Bart Willemse, at the Cumberland Bar on Thursdays after 9:30 pm. You can also
post a cheque to Bart at ... , payable to Jacobites Mountaineering Club (social@jacobitesmc.co.uk).

Christmas Dinner

The Christmas Dinner will be held on the weekend of the 14-16th of December at Inver and
not on the 7-9th as printed on the membership cards. Mike Snook will be applying his culinary
skills and no doubt showing up those TV cooks for the beans-on-toast amateurs they are.
He will be taking names from Thursday 22nd at the Cumberland . The first nine places will
be on a first-come-first-served basis with the second nine going to ballot. It will cost
around £20-£25 including a contribution to the Inver fund.

New Year

Although not on the membership card, there will be a club meet at Inver over the New Year.

The Burns Supper

The traditional culinary and cultural feast that is the Jacobites Burns Supper is coming around.
Dates have yet to be finalised, but it will either be the 23rd or 24th of January. A warm
invitation is now open to speakers, poets, and maybe even musicians among us who would like to
contribute some cultural entertainment on the night. Please contact the social secretary,
Bart Willemse, at Thursday pub nights, or e-mail him at social@jacobitesmc.co.uk.

Items for Sale

The Devil might wear Prada but discriminating mountaineers wear Jacobite T-shirts. If you
ordered a club T-shirt from Andy Duncan earlier in the year they are now ready for collection.
Andy will be down at The Cumberland for the next few weeks.
Now that shops are displaying Christmas ware since about midsummer, your mountaineering club
is also succumbing to commercial pressures, but in aid of a good cause. Inver mugs and Christmas
cards will be on sale at the Cumberland . The mugs show a scene of Inver against a background of
hills as sketched by Alan Walker. They cost £5 each and profits go to the fund for further
improvements at Inver especially a second toilet and mattresses for the loft. If you wish to
contribute towards more comfortable nights at Inver then these are available from Alan Walker
and Andy Duncan. Steve Jones, former writer and editor of this august publication will be selling
cards of mountain scenes (£1.5 each and 5 for £5).

A Word from the Membership Secretary:

"Just a reminder that you need to renew your membership by the end of November to continue
receiving exciting club newsletters like this and for your MCofS insurance to be uninterrupted.
The preferred method for renewing your membership is to come down to the pub, where I'll have
your very own membership form ready for you to complete, as last year. Not only will your form
be waiting for you, but I can issue your new membership card there and then! Subscription costs
this year are £26, or £12 unwaged. However, for the SMALL numbers of you not able to make it to
the pub (and for those living in far flung places such as Glasgow/Perth/Germany I can understand
it's tricky), you can renew by post. But, before you send your cheque, please e-mail me at
membership@jacobitesmc.co.uk and I'll e-mail you back your form to fill in with all your details.
You'll then need to post me your cheque, completed form and sae for return of your membership
card. Please forward any changes of address to the membership secretary."

Call for Journal Sub-editors

There are still three sub-editor jobs to be filled for the Jacobites Journal, The Winter Climbing
Year, The International Year and New Routes. Please can you let Ailsa Murray know as soon as possible
(journal@jacobitesmc.co.uk) if you are interested in writing up either of these topics for the
next journal. Also our journal editor requests everyone to start getting your adventures from the past
year down on paper before they become a distant memory. It's a good way to relive your holidays over
the dark winter nights.

Lecture

There is a talk this coming Thursday (22nd November) which may be of interest to club members.
It's a celebration of books on hillwalking, presented by Luath Press. Ian R Mitchell, author of
'Walking Through Scotland's History', will give a illustrated talk about the history of walking
in Scotland from ancient times to the present day, and shares tips on the best walking routes in
the country. It's being held at Blackwell's bookshop 53-59 South Bridge Edinburgh starting at 18.00
and tickets, which are free, can be obtained from their website.
If there is other information pertaining to the club you are wanting distributed please let
Colm Fitzgerald know (newsletter@jacobitesmc.co.uk)
