Inver Work Meet
5th-7th May 2006

The Inver improvement programme swung into action on the 5th of May.

Mike Snook, Alan Walker and Roy Plenderleith got going early on Friday morning. By the time the next arrivals appeared, contruction materials were stacked the roadside, waiting to be carried in on Saturday.

Mike had been busy in the hut. Here Nikki inspects where the wall used to be.

A total of 16 members turned up and got to work on Saturday morning. The event happened to coincide with the annual convention of the Achnasheen Chapter of the Cult of the Silver Estate Car.

Many hands were needed to get the materials to the hut.

40 sheets of plasterboard and two 4m worktops posed their own challenges.
Awaiting pictures.

The hut custodian has high standards of food preparation and won't settle for anything less than a full range cooker. This was the next challenge to transport.

The jubilant hunters return home with their prize.

Meanwhile, Roy and Alistair (the skilled part of the workforce) were busy preparing the combined former club room and utility room to become a kitchen. This is your last view of that stone wall.

Mike set about preparing the worktops.

Partially assembled kitchen units wait to go into their new home.

Despite neither the old nor new kitchens being available, Sophie and Ailsa prepared some fantastic marinades, dips, salads and other food.

With everybody having put in a hard day's work, it was time for the barbecue. An improvised shelter was built, to scare away the rain.

Finally the barbie got going, and it was time to take a rest.

The pyromaniacs had fun with the desserts.

Sunday was a shorter working day. The path got some attention, including new marker posts.

Work continued in the new kitchen, for the next work meet to finish off.

The work meet will continue for the next two weeks. Priorities are to finish off the kitchen, remove the old one, rebuild the fireplace and clad some internal walls. Cladding will unfortunatley remove visibility of the natural stone but has big advantages in terms of insulation, mouseproofing and being easy to keep clean. The new arrangement will reduce the congestion in the main room on busy weekends.

Photos by Gordon and Nikki Crawford. Other photos from the weekend would be welcome.
