Charlie was
probably better known to most of you as Champion Potterdale Conclusion
Charlie was bred
by Janet and Mike Lewis, by Potterdale Anderson at Ramsgrove out of
Ch.Blumberg Hadriana at Potterdale.
Charlie had an excellent show career gaining 6 Challenge Certificates,
one with Best of Breed and Reserve Best in Show and 7 reserve
Challenge Certificates. However, he was probably better known for his stud career
and his influence on the breed through his progeny.
Charlie was the "Our Dogs" Top Sire in breed in 1990 and 1992. He was
the "Dog World" Top Stud Dog in breed in 1991,1992,1994,1995,1996 and
1997.He sired 11 U.K. Champions and
over 12 overseas Champions. Many of his progeny have become top
winners in their own right both in the U.K. and overseas, including U.S.A.,Canada, Sweden,France,Germany and Denmark.
Charlie was
truly a "once in a lifetime" dog, we are proud to have
shared our lives with him and through this page we hope you will also
share in some of those moments through the pictures of Charlie and his
progeny.
Charlie left us at the age of 16.

Character profile.
Charlie was extremely strong willed and liked to get his own way. He
was also extremely obstinate and liked nothing more than to make you
wait whilst he did things in his own good time. He was very vocal,
particularly if things weren't going entirely the way he wanted them
to. He was extremely loyal and very affectionate, but only to people
he took a liking to. On more than one occasion we have seen people
approach Charlie, desperate to speak to him and stroke him, only to be
met with total indifference by Charlie. It seems that he either took to you instantly or forever ignored
you, there was not much middle ground so far as Charlie's affections
were concerned. This also seemed to link in with Charlie's uncanny
judge of character. It was usually the people we are not too keen on which Charlie rebuffs. However, sometimes he
has not wanted anything to do with the occasional person who we have
quite liked and thought to be genuine. Unfortunately it was usually Charlie's
judgment which time proved to be correct. He also showed an
unexplainable insight when bitches came to him for mating. On some occasions he
has totally refused to mate a bitch and shown little or no interest in her, it
has later been discovered these bitches have had illnesses which have not yet manifested themselves. Charlie's intuition
surprised us on many occasions.
Charlie was a prolific stud dog. He has had a tremendous influence on the breed without all his offspring looking like carbon copies. Charlie seemed
to enhance the bitches breeding rather than totally overwhelming it,
his main influence seeming to be quality of construction rather than
merely stamping his type on everything. Having said that, his
offspring are usually recognizable by their overall quality and style
together with the unmistakable Charlie head, expression and character.
His main likes were food, food and food. His main hates were baths, grooming and doing as he's told.
