'... creating outdoor spaces - for children ... with children'

           

 

 

Newbold Riverside Primary School and Childrens Centre, Rugby.

The Reception and nursery have been refurbished as part of the larger project to adapt the school as a Childrens Centre.  The garden area was overgrown with spaces difficult to use and a maze of unforgiving concrete paths.

Simon Venn was asked to develop a design and then asked to build it.  The concrete was removed, the space opened up and additional space was adopted from the adjacent tarmac playground.  Extending on the theme of the new timber cladding to the Childrens centre, a series of timber elements were placed to provide a range of spaces for the children to explore and use in their own way.

and now with the Troll bridge, the fishbone pergola, the deck around the magnificent copper beech tree, planters,

       

That was a great start.  Then we finished the musical fence and the higgledy pig house.

      

 

Oh what fun we had ! !
