'... adding pleasure and value
to your home'

Last year the new conservatory had been built (shown on the left here) and some slabs had been quickly put down (with lots of gravel) to create a patio area.
Unfortunately the slabs settled rather unevenly and ... well ... it is possible to have just a little too much gravel !!
The view from the new conservatory doors fell on the blank wall of the neighbours extension, where the Virginia Creeper (Parthenocissus quinquefolia) was struggling to find anything to creep up.
The Proposal;
The client wanted a deck - so Simon Venn designed a deck - but NOT just any old deck!
Using the nature of the timber planking with its texture and lines, the area directly outside the conservatory door (to the right of this plan) was to be identified as a specific space using a diamond layout.
The circulation space (on the left) - connecting the back door, side passage and the garden was to use a different layout - an arrow formation - that would draw the eye to the garden.
SV did a couple of quick overlays on the pictures of the existing showed what was being proposed ...
The whole deck was to be enclosed by railings that further defined the spaces created.
Oh, ... and for the Virginia Creeper? ... a diamond frame to enjoy for years to come.
... and now?
Once again - what is in the SV sketch is what you get. (compare these 'as built' photos with the sketches above)
... and looking out from the back door you can really appreciate the beautiful patterns of the woodwork.
When the Virginia creeper wakes up in the springtime it will have something to climb - and what an improved view is this from the conservatory doors.
Happy clients?
"We're really really pleased.
We wanted a deck, but when Simon showed us his ideas we were thrilled. Now it's been built it's even better.
It's Christmas dinner on the deck for us - we've even bought the deck heater!"
