Thatcham Methodist Church

Mission Statement and Development Plan

The Mission of Thatcham Methodist Church is to enable people to experience God’s love for them. We shall seek to do this by becoming:

A welcoming place
A safe place
A fun place
A learning place
A caring place
  A holy place
A transforming place

In order to become such a place we shall continue to develop our worship, service, learning, caring and evangelism through supplementing what we hold dear by:

Implementing the suggestions of the youth work review group.

·         Using the new songbooks to offer a wider variety of styles of worship.

·         Updating the sound system to facilitate the use of a music and singing group to help lead worship.

·         Encouraging more use of drama, story and testimony in worship.

·         Developing worship opportunities in the life of all our Church Groups.

·         Regularly welcoming preachers from other local churches to lead worship.

·         Producing a Welcome Booklet that details the work of all our Church Groups.

·         Making our physical environment as welcoming and accessible as possible.

·         Developing a rigorous and clear safeguarding policy and procedures.

·         Enabling all our Church Groups to have access to high quality, appropriate equipment and resources.

·         Ensuring that everybody has the opportunity of belonging to a small group within the life of the Church.

·         Encouraging each individual to serve in the Church in a way that is appropriate to their gifts.

·         Offering training and learning opportunities to increase our confidence and deepen our faith.

·         Working ecumenically whenever appropriate.

·         Participating in the setting up and running of a Third Age Forum in the local community.

·         Supporting the Community Hospital and Youth Coffee Bar projects in whatever ways we can.

·         Finding ways to offer support to people of other nationalities and faiths in the local community.

·         Exploring the possibility of a twinning relationship with a church in a different context to our own.

·         Supporting the work of the wider Methodist Church through prayer, giving and awareness raising.

·         Setting up a group to use our Mission Statement as a tool for reviewing the whole life of the Church.
