Archaeozoology is the study of animal remains from archaeological sites. My studies are of all classes of animal bones (and sometimes marine molluscs). Analysis gives information about past diet, butchery, changes in animal size and distribution, and many other aspects of the animal economy and local environment.

Based in the UK much of my work is on British material, but also involves projects in Egypt and Russia. Access to modern reference collections is essential, after over 20 years my skeleton collection now includes over 2000 specimens of hundreds of species.

I also have an interest in modern taphonomy (a study of the changes in a body from the live state to the buried bones, which aids the interpretation of excavated remains).
