A number of modern streets owe their existance to the early town planning depicted in this map. These are East and West Church Sreet, Baron Street; Bank Street and Low Street. Also we can see clearly Cluny Square and the High Street running south.
Also of interest to local historians is the precisely looking delineation of the Fishtown, with their seemingly randomly place houses, now locally known as the Catbow. In 1792 there were 65 dwellings housing 303 inhabitants there according to the Statistical Account. The other early parts of Buckie, the Shore of Buckie and Nether Buckie were located west of the Burn of Buckie, not unfortunately shown on this map. Also proposed was the site of a harbour near where the modern Cluny Harbour is now situated. High and low water tides are marked as are the bearings of the "Rocks in the Bay called the Mucks", essential for shipping unfamiliar with the area. Only the West Mucks are shown here. the houses in the area now known as the Yardie have not been built at this time and the area is shown as an enclosure.
