The Yorkshire Dales National Park.
Established in 1954, the Yorkshire Dales National Park has outstanding scenery, a range of wildlife habitats and a rich cultural heritage. It’s a special place for outdoor recreation and peaceful relaxation and a haven for wildlife. Covering an area of 680 square miles, the National Park is located in the north of England, and straddles the central Pennines in the counties of North Yorkshire and Cumbria. Some of the places we visited from our base at Hawes are numbered on the map and below.
1. Sedbergh, England's Book Town, (pronounced Sed-ber).
2. White Scar Caves, near Ingleton. See our Dales tour.
8. The Hawes Ropemakers. See our Dales tour.
9. Dales Countryside Museum at Hawes.
