(1) To the memory of The Hays of Rannes and Lenplum. 1121. Sir William Hay of Locharet was ancestor of the noble family of Tweedale. 1474 He married a second wife, Alicia, daughter of Sir William Hay of Errol, by whom he had Sir Edmund Hay of Lenplum and Morum, who married Margaret Kerr, and had Dugald Hay of Lenplum, who married Helen Cockburn, daughter of Cockburn of Newhall. Their children were:- 1520. 1, Edmund Hay of Lenplum; 2, George Hay of Rannes; 3, William Hay of Edderston; 4 Andrew Hay of Ranfield. 1562. The above George Hay was Superintendent of Glasgow and Aberdeen, Secretary to the Privy Council in the year 1567, and Rector of Rathven. He added the lands of Faskin and Findachy to his patrimonial inheritance. He also acquired the lands of Edderston, which he bestowed on his brother William, and the lands of Ranfield, which he gave to his brother Andrew. 1567. The above George Hay married Marriot, daughter of Henderson of Fordel, of whom there were - 1, George, who died unmarried, in the year 1586. 1603. 2, James Hay of Rannes and Lenplum, who married Katharine, daughter of Dunbar of Grange Their children were - 1, George Hay of Rannes; 2, James Hay of Muldavit; 3, John Hay of Langshed; 4, Andrew; ,5, William; 6, Katherine; 7, Anne. The above James Hay of Rannes succeeded to the estate of Lenplum in consequence of the failure of heirs male of William Hay of Lenplum, as is instructed by a deed recorded in the books of Session, 28th of May 1599, but he afterward sold this property to Sir William Hay, a younger son of the family of Tweedale. 1630. In the estate of Rannes he was succeeded by his eldest son, George, who married Agnes, daughter of Guthrie of Guthrie, Bishop of Murray, and had (1645) James Hay of Rannes, who married Margaret, daughter of Gordon of Park. Their children were - 1, James Hay of Rannes; 2, Andrew Hay of Mountblairy, of whom the Hays of Cocklaw and Faichfield are descended. 1684. The above James Hay of Rannes married Margaret, daughter of Gordon of Glengerrack. Their children were - 1, Charles Hay of Rannes, born 1688 and died in London 1751; 2, James Hay, who married Helen Lauder, Dowager-Lady Banff, of whom were James, Charles, and William Hays. 1710. The above Charles Hay of Rannes married Helen, only child of Dr Andrew Fraser, Inverness. Their children were - 1, Andrew Hay of Rannes; 2, Alexander Hay, died 1771, aged 47; 3, Mary, married to Leith of Leithhall; 4, Catherine, married to Gordon of Shilagreen; 5, Clementina, married to Duff of Whitehill; 6, Margaret, married to Russell of Montcoffer; 7, Jane, unmarried. 1789 The above Andrew Hay died unmarried, the 29th of August. 1789, aged 76, and his remains are deposited in this aisle. Mr Hay was distinguished for those qualities which add grace and dignity to human nature. Possessed of true piety, he was an affectionate kinsman, a steady friend, a pleasant companion, and an honest man. The urbanity of his manners and the kindness of his disposition were universally felt and acknowledged. He made use of his fortune with that happy prudence which enabled him while alive to share its enjoyment with his friends, and to leave to his successor an ample and independent inheritance. Rev. xiv. 13.

(2) To the memory of John Cowie, aged 44, elder of the Free Church of Buckie, and his two sons - James, aged 14 years, and John, 21 years, who perished at Peterhead in the fearful storm, August l9th 1848. They were lovely and pleasant in there [sic] lives, and in there [sic] death they were not divided. To the memories also of her daughters - Jissie, who died in 1835; Ann, 1841; Jissie, 1845; and Mary, 1847. This stone is placed by the widow and mother. She looks to Jesus, and desires to drink the cup her heavenly Father giveth her.

Together to our Father's house with joyful hearts they go,
And dwell for ever with the Lord, beyond the reach of woe,
A few short years of evil past, we reach the happy shore
Where death-divided friends at last shall meet to part no more.

(3) Erected by Widow M'Intosh, Portessie, in remembrance of her husband, George M'intosh, who died Novr. 13th 1878, aged 39 years; also of their two children, who died in infancy.

(4) Erected by James M'Combie, fishcurer, Buckie, in memory of his father, George M'Combie, died 18th September 1853, aged 68. His mother, Janet Young, died 14th March 1863, aged 77; and his daughter Elizabeth M'Combie, died 29th January 1868, aged 19 years; and his wife, Jane Scott, died 3rd September 1879, aged 69 years.

(5) Erected by Alexander Taylor, in memory of his father, John Taylor, who died Octr. 20th 1827, aged 63 years; and of his mother, Mary Wilson, who died Octr. 20th 1815, aged 50 years; also of his brother, Peter Taylor, who died May 20th 1836, aged 46 years.

(6) Erected by Ann Flett, in memory of her husband, George Imlach, fisherman, Portessie, who died 22nd March 1871, aged 46 years. 'Twas a home in heaven was the joyful thought, As this poor man toiled in his weary lot; His heart oppressed, and with anguish driven From his home below to home in heaven.

(8) This stone belongs to James Boyn, who lived in Darbuckie, died 2nd Jany. 1805, aged 95 years. Espoused to Hellen Forbes, who died 31st Decr. 1791, aged 85. His sons, James and William Boyn's, and James' wife, Jean Reid, are interred here, five breadths from the old church wall. His son John died 22nd Septr., 1826, aged 87 years. I. B. H. F. 1778. Alexander Boyn, Darbuckie, died 4th January 1834, aged 89 years. O, frail men, as you pass by, As you are now, so once was I; As I am now, so must you be; Remember, men, that you must dye.

(9) To the memory of Alexander Petrie, in Mains of Findochty, who died 12th Jany. 1811, aged 59 years; James Petrie, his eldest son who died 22nd Sept. 1810, aged 26 years; John Petrie, his third son, who died 29th Sept. 1831, aged 37 years. Also, Ann Strachan, wife of the above Alexander Petrie, who died 17th Decr. 1841, aged 82 years; Charles, their son, who died 21st March 1877, aged 72 years; and Elizabeth, their daughter, who died 6th Decr. 1878, aged 87 years.

(10) In memory of William Petrie, Netherton, Findochty, who died 8th Jany. 1875, aged 78 years; Isabella Andrew, his wife, who died 22nd. April 1867, aged 64 years; William, their son, who died 4th Decr. 1837, aged 10 years; Margaret, their daughter, who died 18th Oct. 1843, aged 10 months; Charles, their son, who died 17th Novr. 1873, aged 36 years; George, their son, who died 27th Novr. 1877, aged 44 years.

(11) This stone belongs to James Forbes, dueller in Nyr [Nether] Buckie; Janet Reid, his spouse, who departed . . . I. F. I. R.

(12) Here lies the body of William Thomson, late in Buckie, who died 15th Septr. 1810, aged 34 years. Erected by Kathrine Murray in due respect to her deceased husband. Hark, from the tomb a solemn sound, Prepair, repair, it cries, To drop your body in the dust, Your soul to mount the skies.

(13) This stone was erected to Katharin Duncan to the memory of Alexander Innes, Capt. of the Enzie Volunteers, her husband, who died at Loanhead, the 15th Sept. 1799, and is interred here, aged 45.

(14) In memory of Catherine Duncan Innes, widow of the late Captain Innes, Loanhead, who died 24th June 1851, aged 85 years. Deeply regretted. Also of her daughter, Mary Munro Innes, who died at Loanhead, the 25th March 1876, aged 78 years.

(15) . . . Edinburgh. She was sincerely pious, benevolent, and just; a dutiful daughter, and an affectionate wife. She died on the 17th September 1820, in the 37th year of her age, lamented by her friends and relations. . . .

(16) Deorsum nunquam. A. G. E. G. Memoriae charissimae suae conjugis Elizabeth Gordon, quae decessit die decimo quinto Januarij calendas 1725 aetatis suae 31. Monumentum hoc extrui curavit maritus superstes Alexander Gordon de Cairnfield, Signeto Regis Scriba. Job 10 chap. and 26. [Never downwards. A.G. E.G. In memory of his dear wife, Elizabeth Gordon, who died on the fifteenth day of January 1725 in the 31st year of her age. This monument was attended to by her surviving husband, Alexander Gordon of Cairnfield, private secretary? to the king.]

(17) Lieutenant James Gordon, second son of the late George Gordon, Esq. of Buckie, departed this life at Cullen, the 27th of May 1800, in the 58th year of his age. Mrs Helen Ord, his spouse, and daughter of Mr William Ord, of the family of Findochty, late merchant in Deskford, died at Cullen, the 1st of December 1803, in the 78th [year of] her age. This stone is placed over their remains by Mrs Anne Rannie, eldest daughter of the late Colonel Browne, as a sincere tribute to their memory, and in testimony of her regard to a worthy friend and of her attachment to an affectionate aunt.

(18) Sacred to the memory of the late family of Steuarts of Tanachy, Banffshire, all of whom but two lie interred here. Patrick Steuart of Tanachy died 31st December 1779, aged 50; Elizabeth, his wife, died 4th April 1803, aged 60; their three sons, George Steuart of Tanachy, W.S., died October 1814, aged 45; Alexander, Major 75th Regt., killed in Callabria, April 1813, aged 40; Andrew, died in the island of Jamaica, aged 22; and their two daughters, Harriet Mary, died 19th July 1864, in the 93rd year of her age; Elizabeth Margaret, died 24th July 1858, aged 82. Two handmaids of the Lord in whom through grace they trusted, and whom they loved; they walked together in the faith and hope of the gospel, `adorning the doctrine of God their Saviour in all things' - Titus ii. 10. Blessed are the dead which died in the Lord. Rev. xiv. 13. [Stewart]

(19) The burial grounds of the families of Farskan and Findochty were inclosed by William Gordon Duff of Eden and William Dunbar of Nether Buckie, descendants of these families, 1799.

(20) Erected by Elizabeth Crichton, in affectionate remembrance of her husband, the Rev. James Crichton, late minister of Rathven, who died 28th July 1865, in the 40th year of his age and 13th of his ministry.

(21) Sacred to the memory of the Rev. George Donaldson, minister of Rathven, who died 12th November 1821, aged 79 years; also of Margaret, his daughter, wife of John Masson, S.S.C., Edinburgh, who died 17th September 1820, aged 37; also of Archibald Dunbar, Edinburgh, who died 19th June 1809, aged 38.

(22) Here lyes William Gordon of Farskane, who departed this life the xvi day of June MDCXCII. Memento mori.

(23) Sacred to the memory of James Gordon, second son of Alexander Gordon of Cairnfield, who died at Banff on the 1st January MDCCCXV., aetet. 77; and Janet Mercer, his wife, who died at Nairn on the 24th May MDCCCXLII., aetat. 84. This tablet is placed here by Adam Garden Gordon, their youngest son, and Francis Gordon of Kincardine, MDCCCXLIV.

(24) 'Bydand.' To the memory of Adam Gordon of Cairnfield, who died 17th March 1847, aged 74; Elizabeth Cruickshank, his wife, eldest daughter of the late Patrick Cruickshank of Stracathro, Forfarshire, died 29th January 1847, aged 67; and their two sons and five daughters, who predeceased them. This monument is erected as a tribute of respect and affection by their surviving sons - John Gordon of Cairnfield; Patrick, Major H.E.I.C.S.; George, merchant, U.S. America; James S. Duff and William, Lieuts. H.E.I.C.S.

(25) 'Bydand.' in memory of Margaret, the beloved wife of John Gordon of Cairnfield, departed this life 19th May 1871, aged 41 years; and of Alexander, their son, who died in infancy; also Elizabeth Patricia Catherine, their only daughter, who died 13th Augt. 1875, aged 15 years; John Gordon of Cairnfield, born 23rd Septr, 1805, died 19th April 1882, aged 76 years. To me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. Phil. i. 21. ['Bydand', (remaining), is the motto of the Gordons.]

(26) To the memory of Walter Bowie, late in Buckie, who departed this life 27th January 1827, in the 82nd year of his age; of Margaret Forbes, his spouse, who died 22nd July 1810, aged 50; and of Joseph Bowie, their youngest son, who died November 22nd 1815, aged 21. R.I.P.

(28) Erected this year, 1842, by Ann Geddes, in memory of her husband, Alexr. Bruce, late seaman in Buckie, who died the 20th August 1838, aged 73 years; and of his daughter Helen, who died the 24th Novr. 1831, aged 21 years; and also of his daughter Jean, who died in infancy. All you that does my death bemoan, Prepair yourselves, your time unknown.

(29) Erected by Peter Bruce, whitefisher, Buckie, to the memory of his wife, Janet Coule, who died 26th Decr. 1854, aged 63 years.

(30) In memory of William Bruce, fisherman, Buckie, who died 2nd Novr. 1873, aged 75 year. Erected by his widow, Jane Smith, who died 13th March 1876, aged 68 years. Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord.

(31) Erected by John Geddes, junr., Buckie in memory of his mother-in-law, Jane Geddes, who died 5th Novr. 1880, aged 84 years; relict of John Bruce, who died 15th Feb. 1835, aged 42 years; also of his beloved wife, Jane Bruce, who died et Montrose, 14th May 1880, aged 47 years, and is buried there.

(299) Erected by George Black, blacksmith, Buckie, in memory of his beloved wife, Isabella Anderson, who died 6th April 1874, aged 73 years. Also, of his daughter Helen, who died May 1835, aged 1 year; and of Isabella, who died 16th Augt. 1865, aged 29 years. [Duplicate entry].

Here lies the body of John Reid, some time skipper, in Shore of Buckie, who died the 20th Oct. 1786, aged 65 years; and Margaret Wood, his spouse, who died 2nd Oct. 1785, aged 62 years.
